What it does
This MCP server exposes search and retrieval over SharePoint sites and Teams files to approved assistants. Every request runs with the signed-in user's own permissions through Microsoft Entra ID, and every retrieval is logged.
It is usually the first MCP server we build, because so many workflows start with finding the right document.
One governed door into your document estate. The server searches on behalf of the signed-in user, so an assistant can never see a file that person could not open.
What it may and may not do
| Operation | System | Access | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search documents | SharePoint | READ | User's own permissions |
| Retrieve a document | SharePoint | READ | Logged |
| Edit or delete | SharePoint | NEVER | Not built |
Compatibility
- Clients
- Any MCP-compatible assistant you approve
- Tenancy
- Microsoft 365 in Australian data centres
Probably not for you if
- Document permissions that are known to be badly out of date (fix those first)
Questions we get asked
Does it copy our documents somewhere?
It retrieves on demand. Where an index is needed for speed, it stays in your Azure tenancy in Australia.
